Dirty Tricks by State
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_8200
Unit 8200 is an Israeli Intelligence Corps unit of the Israel Defense Forces responsible for clandestine operation, collecting signal intelligence (SIGINT) and code decryption, counterintelligence, cyberwarfare, military intelligence, and surveillance. The unit is composed primarily of 18–21 year olds. Former Unit 8200 soldiers have, after completing their military service, gone on to founding and occupying top positions in many international IT companies and in Silicon Valley . According to the Director of Military Sciences at the Royal United Services Institute, "Unit 8200 is probably the foremost technical intelligence agency in the world and stands on a par with the NSA in everything except scale." -

Gilad became troubled by the intrusive methods being used against Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. The refuseniks say they were asked to gather information not only on people suspected of plotting to harm Israel but on their family members, neighbours and others who might supply information about them.
Gilad told me. “You get inside people’s lives and you laugh about their sexual habits or medical problems. And it shows how far it goes. It shows you how power can corrupt.”
Israel withdrew its military from much of the West Bank in the early 1990s and all of Gaza in 2005, but its forces can still enter Palestinian Authority-controlled areas for arrests or other security operations. Palestinians in both territories depend on permits to travel into Israel or Jerusalem, giving Israeli authorities, the protesters said, the ability to barter for information.
“It’s one thing to spy on Iranians or Syrians, another to spy on Palestinians, because they are subjects of Israel,” Gilad said. “It’s more like spying on your own citizens.”
Centre buying Pegasus-type ‘snooping’ spyware ‘Cognyte’: Congress By Saptarshi Das Apr 10, 2023 03:51 PM IST https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/congress-alleges-government-trying-to-buy-pegasus-type-spyware-cognyte-for-986-crore-to-snoop-on-politicians-media-activists-and-ngos-101681122086755-amp.html
Cognyte’s webpage states that the Israeli software is a “global leader in investigative analytics software that empowers governments and enterprises with Actionable Intelligence for a Safer World”
The Congress on Monday said the Union government is trying to buy a Pegasus-type spying software called ‘Cognyte’ at a cost of ₹986 crore, and alleged that it will be used to snoop on politicians, media, activists, and NGOs.

An unprecedented leak of more than 50,000 phone numbers selected for surveillance by the customers of the Israeli company NSO Group shows how this technology has been systematically abused for years. The Forbidden Stories consortium and Amnesty International had access to records of phone numbers from more than 50 countries selected by NSO clients since 2016.

Hear from horses mouth how govt is using Pegasus to harass journalists https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f04TNmx5aMU । That Pegasus is being used systematically to bug the mobiles of journalists or opposition leaders has always been in the news. Investigation by Amnesty International has now established without doubt that at least two Indian journalists have been under the Pegasus net. ‘The Wire’ Editor Siddhartha Vardharajan, who is one of these two, speaks with Satya Hindi in an exclusive interview.
https://knightcolumbia.org/content/knight-institute-comments-on-supreme-courts-denial-of-cert-in-nso-v-whatsapp The U.S. Supreme Court today denied cert in NSO Group Technologies Limited v. WhatsApp Inc., a case challenging NSO Group’s abuse of WhatsApp technology to deploy its Pegasus spyware. The Supreme Court’s decision today puts an end to NSO Group’s argument that it cannot be held liable because it is entitled to common-law foreign sovereign immunity... Today’s decision clears the path for lawsuits brought by the tech companies, as well as for suits brought by journalists and human rights advocates who have been victims of spyware attacks. The use of spyware to surveil and intimidate journalists poses one of the most urgent threats to press freedom and democracy today.”
Comment on WA JD: Does this means that users of WA and FB, can any one sue WA & FB for not litigating violations of privacy by different commercial apps, because most of the time apps asks for data, "to improve performance and service"
पेगासस पर मोदी सरकार का झूठ बेपर्दा, IB Bought Hardware From Israel Matching Kit Used for Pegasus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i922NH52Kng
On Thursday, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project reported that the Intelligence Bureau imported hardware from NSO Group, the firm behind the powerful Pegasus spyware in 2017. Entrackr has been able to corroborate OCCRP’s findings through another source of Indian trade data, and was able to do so independently, without ever being in contact with the OCCRP or the authors of the report.
The Indian government has consistently sidestepped the question of whether it has purchased access to Pegasus. OCCRP’s report says that the hardware imported into India matches specifications of the spyware that were previously uncovered. While this particular analysis is not something Entrackr can currently corroborate, we know for certain that the shipper of these goods was NSO Group, and their recipient was the Intelligence Bureau.
We have reached out to the Ministry of Home Affairs for comment. A spokesperson was unavailable for immediate comment.
Pegasus is capable of extracting a phone’s contents and sending them to whichever agency purchased it, including WhatsApp messages, files in storage, and so on. The spyware takes advantage of so-called zero-day exploits, vulnerabilities that have never been disclosed to a phone’s manufacturer or widely known publicly, and are hence unpatched. This includes zero-click attacks, where a device can be compromised without the user needing to be tricked into clicking a malicious link or downloading a virus-laden file.
