For years Barefoot College International has co-created programs side by side with rural communities to solve deeply rooted systemic issues. With empathy, women from over 17 states in India have learned to develop opportunities for their families through curriculums designed for the non-formally educated. Our workshops transcend the literacy barriers for rural women to attain new skills and aspirations that have benefitted over 1 million rural people in India. Our Harmara Campus will serve as an educational hub and learning centre, where our various sustainable, regenerative and resilience-building initiatives will be showcased for an international and pan-India audience. Our successful, solution-focused initiatives will be open for public learning, observation and interaction like never before. Since 2020, our COVID champions have been tirelessly working to mitigate the risk of the COVID-19 pandemic in Harmara and surrounding 65 villages. The team has mobilised resources to provide 18000+ diagnostic and preventative pieces of equipment, assisted 43000+ individuals to get their vaccines, and disseminated awareness AV content in 12 languages to 2 million rural inhabitants. The Campus will harbour our long-term local team members who continue to serve as teachers, change-makers and ambassadors of rural empowerment. It will help us to deliver our globally-acclaimed Solar Engineering and Enriche livelihood training, focusing on comprehensive capacity building for rural women and girls.
