Hate Crime
PUCL UP, strongly condemns the Hindu communal attack on the 200-year-old historical tomb of Nawab Abdul Samad in Fatehpur, and demands strict action against the attackers.
As you know, today on 11/8/2025, communal anarchists attacked and damaged the tomb of Nawab Abdul Samad located in Abunagar Rediya Mohalla of Fatehpur. This attack has happened at a time when for a few days, some people associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Hindu Mahasabha and other organizations were demanding to declare this historical building as a temple and wanted to worship in it. Even though police was deployed there after that, but today's attack shows that the police was negligent on this side and allowed the attacks to happen. This clearly shows that the administration and the state government have surrendered before such anarchist elements and they do not want communal harmony to prevail in the state.
The increasing attacks on religious places of the minority community in Uttar Pradesh not only show the negligence of the police administration but also clearly show their communal attitude. The People's Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) Uttar Pradesh strongly condemns this attack and demands that strict action be taken against those who attacked the tomb and necessary steps be taken to stop these communal attacks. Apart from this, accountability of the responsible police officers and administration should also be fixed. Strong security arrangements should be made for the religious and historical places related to the minority community in Uttar Pradesh, so that our historical heritage can be preserved.
Since the said tomb is said to be at least 200 years old, the state government should make arrangements for its renovation keeping in mind the damage caused in this attack.

A sitting cabinet minister, with 20 hate speech FIRs pending against him, delivers an anti-Muslim hate speech INSIDE the premises of the Maharashtra legislature. Kunal Purohit @kunalpurohit
Hate crimes against religious minorities have increased in number and intensity in the past year and the violence is directed at Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis, and Christians amongst other minorities in ways that are systematic, vengeful, and going nowhere, a report by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights has found. https://www.thewire.in/communalism/apcr-report-communalism-anti-minority-hate-crimes-modi-third-government-first-year
The report is titled ‘Hate Crime Report: Mapping First Year of Modi’s Third Government’. It comes at the end of a year of systematic research on communal violence and inflammatory speech targeting religious minorities in India.
The Association for Protection of Civil Rights or APCR is a non-profit civil rights organisation established in 2006.
The group points out that despite the rising intensity and frequency of targeted attacks on religious minorities, there remains “no systematic or institutional effort to record or document hate crimes.”
On June 14, All India Lawyer’s Association for Justice (AILAJ), a progressive lawyer’s organisation, issued a statement demanding an in-house inquiry against Allahabad high court judge, Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav for Islamophobic statements made in December 2024 at an event of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a Hindu right-wing organisation. In the statement issued by the AILAJ National Committee, the organisation stated, “Bigotry is the antithesis of fraternity, and the judiciary must not tolerate it within its ranks”. The demand comes in response to Justice Yadav’s speech made during a lecture on the “Constitutional Necessity of Uniform Civil Code” on December 8, 2024 in Prayagraj, organised by VHP. The speech markedly adopted a language that many characterised as a ‘hate speech’ against Indian Muslims.

Each one has their own style of documentation and each one is a shining node. We hope to have a decentralised platform which will valorise whatever work individuals an organisations are doing, such that while they do their regular work of posting, creating websites, blogs, data directories, such that it can be searched, and researched, and help activist (information activist, if you will) curate this content into learning modules, state of the art reports.. letting a thousand nodes glow.

Rane’s speeches continued throughout the month of February, spreading more hateful conspiracy theories, and even suggesting that if Muslims “looked at Hindus in an incorrect manner,” they would face consequences. He stated that, “Our government is very bad. What is going on around I am aware of everything. You don’t have to struggle. Wherever something wrong is happening, wherever someone tries to slaughter a cow, wherever someone tries to smuggle, wherever green snakes try to wriggle, just make one call, and leave the rest of the arrangements to me., https://cjp.org.in/the-role-of-leaders-in-spreading-divisive-rhetoric/
