The space for activism may completely vanish, Ms. Verma said, as his party becomes increasingly intolerant of any scrutiny.

For now, she said, activists “are, sadly, just giving proof of our existence: that we may be demoralized, but we are still alive. Otherwise, hatred has seeped so deep it will take decades to rebuild trust.”

third alarm bell, is foreign direct investment into the country.FDI has been falling for a few years now, as has India’s share in global FDI, which shows foreign companies are increasingly choosing other countries. One of the major reasons is difficulty in procuring land and dealing with India’s labour.

The solutions? The first is for the Centre to repair its increasingly fractured relationship with the states. State governments must remember that FDI might be tracked at a national level, but it actually comes to the states. There are huge economic benefits to working cohesively with the Centre on attracting more foreign investment instead of treating it as attracting investment despite the Centre

The other two solutions are to do with land and labour, both issues that have plagued India’s economy for decades. Procuring land needs to be easier, and hiring labour less fraught

Contending that they stand firmly against the continued use of fossil fuels, the organisations said the Financial Times report provided fresh and detailed evidence of the passing off of "low-quality coal as far more expensive cleaner fuel" by the Adani Group in transactions with Tamil Nadu's Tangedco.

While the Adani Group has denied all allegations, the news report has been cited by opposition leaders, including former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, to demand a joint parliamentary committee probe into the alleged wrongdoing.

What those who have stalls on the roads really want is social security, dignity to work, and a decent livelihood to survive, finds Satvika Mahajan The Street vendors Act 2014 was meant to protect the rights of urban street vendors. All street vendors were supposed to be provided licences.. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections leading national parties made poll promises.. 
The Urban Development Ministry has the power to make decisions for street vendors. There needs to be a push to decentralise decision making with training and capacity buildingin the ULBs and TVCs.

Why has Modi gov given one month extension to army chief, Gen Manoj Pande when there is NO crisis that requires him to remain in office?
It shows:
1. Gov arbitrariness in military appointment
2. Gov did the same with CDS Anil Chauhan- who was brought back from retirement, given higher rank of 4 star & made CDS
These actions shows dangerous
preference given to senior officers who are ideologically aligned with the ruling political party. Pande ji has demonstrated this by taking military thinking to medieval statecraft- instead of focusing it on modern warfare.
If Modi gov gets another term in office, we shall have military leadership with no intellectual desire to learn what it should.

The PMLA is perhaps the most draconian law in the history of India. Preventive detention laws, which were often used at one time, still provided for procedural safeguards that are absent in this legislation. 

monies generated from the predicate offence are proceeds of crime and using those proceeds by projecting them as untainted money is ‘money laundering’.  By virtue of the explanation added to the definition of money laundering through the Finance Act, 2019, it in effect alters the meaning of money laundering.  .The added explanation obliterates the distinction between proceeds of crime and money laundering. Therefore, under the law as it stands today, the proceeds of crime and money laundering allow the ED to enter any state to investigate the offence... Even though the predicate offence has not resulted in a chargesheet and is at the initial stage of investigation, the ED merrily starts arresting persons. Once arrested, it is impossible for the accused to secure bail because of the stringent legal provisions wherein the court has to come to the conclusion that the accused is not guilty of the offence.

many governments around the world are equipping themselves with advisory boards to help with the process of developing AI regulations. Most promising is the EU’s High‐​Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence. Also, agreements, rules, and standards are beginning to emerge for user privacy, data exchange, and avoiding racial bias (the EU’s GDPR legislation, for example). But, at present, there are no implementable recommendations that can be made to governments or other organizations on maintaining control over AI systems, primarily because the terms “safe and controllable” (reflecting the validity of the “provable beneficial” approach) do not have precise meanings...

the potential positive uses for AI in society (such as advancements in scientific research) and the potential for misusing AI (such as automated extortion). Ignoring the potential for super intelligent AI technology to have catastrophic consequences for humanity would be highly risky. Indeed, Russell cautions that silence over discussing these potentially catastrophic consequences will only ensure a greater probability of this endgame occurring...his approach as one of “responsible innovation,” which requires all relevant stakeholders in the innovation system to embrace a sense of individual and collective responsibility.
