Out of 2.5 crore beneficiaries, the list could be pruned by up to 15 per cent, according to informed sources. Almost 30 to 35 lakh women would be deleted from the scheme.

The vaguely worded press release states that a high-powered enquiry committee has submitted its report – nearly 14 months after it was set up by the Indian government – on activities of some organised criminal groups and terrorist organisations, which undermined the security interests of both India and the United States. The Narendra Modi government was forced to order the probe in November 2023 under pressure from the Biden administration when the US Department of Justice went public regarding the attempt by Indian officials, with the help of criminals, to kill pro-Khalistan campaigner Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York. Similar charges have also been levelled by Canada where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in September 2023 that Canada had credible evidence that agents of the Indian government were involved in the murder of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023
https://www.business-standard.com/economy/news/india-russia-term-deal-talks-for-crude-oil-on-hold-amid-us-restrictions-125011400998_1.html last week’s sanctions on Russian oil and gas entities by the United States have put the talks on hold. Official sources have said the government is preoccupied with analysing the sanctions, which may cut off India’s access to discounted Russian crude and force it to buy at market prices. “Any deal in the current geopolitical climate requires careful planning and lengthy discussions so that shipments do not suddenly stop due to sanctions. But the escalating sanctions have complicated the matter,” an official source said.

Stricter US sanctions threaten Russia's oil trade with India and China: Report https://www.indiatoday.in/business/story/new-us-sanctions-threaten-russias-oil-trade-with-india-china-oil-prices-may-go-up-report-2663810-2025-01-13
The new sanctions are likely to severely affect Russia's oil exports, as many tankers previously used for shipments to India and China will now face restrictions.
The US Treasury announced tougher sanctions on Friday, targeting major Russian oil producers Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, as well as 183 ships involved in transporting Russian oil. These measures aim to cut into the revenues Russia uses to fund its war in Ukraine...
A Singapore-based trader told Reuters that these tankers shipped about 900,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Russian crude to China over the past year, warning that this trade could see a significant drop.
India and China have been major buyers of Russian oil, with India’s imports of Russian crude rising by 4.5% year-on-year to 1.764 million bpd for the first 11 months of last year. This accounted for 36% of India’s total oil imports..An Indian oil refining official said that the country may need to increase its reliance on oil from the Middle East and potentially the US. “There is no option but to go for Middle Eastern oil. Perhaps we may have to go for US oil as well,” the official told Reuters.
the Indian government would want that no punishment is given to Adani,
America started putting pressure. t
The BRICS summit, there was a talk of common currency . the countries will do that trade in their local currency, if there is trade between India and China, it will be in Yuan, the value of Indian Rupee will be seen according to Yuan and payment etc.
our currency has crossed 86 now, that means the value of one dollar has gone up to more than 86 rupees, Modi ji had said with great enthusiasm that India is also in favour of trade in local currency but after the Adani case came up, did you see what happened, Modi ji backtracked, Modi ji said that no brother, we will now trade only in dollars, this was the first pressure,
the second pressure :when America imposed sanctions, India said We are not concerned with these sanctions. We will buy cheap oil from Russia. Secondly, India exported cheap oil bought from Russia to Europe and other countries.. Now, even if a large part of it went to Adani ji, India earned well. Now India has been accepted quietly.
we cannot hand over Adani under any circumstances. Trump knows this weak point. Agreements will be made according to their wishes. when the entire system of your country, when all the money of your country, the entire system, airplanes, etc. are mortgaged to such and such capitalists.
Adani is a political issue. Those who sit in meetings to topple and form the Adani government, Adani becomes so big that the country's interest is put at stake to save him. Even if the country suffers losses, even if the people of the country have to pay for increased petrol prices, but there is no need to put Adani at stake.

Centre clears oil exploration in disputed Assam-Nagaland border area of Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, Jorhat https://mokokchungtimes.com/centre-clears-oil-exploration-in-disputed-assam-nagaland-border-area-of-hoollongapar-gibbon-wildlife-sanctuary-jorhat/
According to the minutes of the NBWL meeting, a team comprising officials from the Union Environment Ministry, the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), and the Assam Forest Department inspected the project site, located approximately 13 km from the sanctuary, on November 15. The inspection committee found that exploratory drilling would cause minimal damage but stated that commercial drilling would not be permitted. Vedanta Group provided written assurance that no commercial drilling will take place at the site.
However, a senior official from the ministry noted that exploratory drilling is a crucial first step in hydrocarbon extraction, which may eventually lead to commercial drilling. Another official added that the inspection committee’s report advised against any oil or gas extraction from within the ESZ, even if reserves are discovered.
Officials also confirmed that Vedanta Group has committed to using exploration solely for identifying hydrocarbon reserves, and any extraction, if reserves are found, will take place outside the ESZ. The company further assured that no hazardous substances would be used during exploration. The Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary spans 20.98 sq km, while its ESZ extends to 264.92 sq km. This expansive ESZ ensures connectivity between the sanctuary, the Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest, and forested areas in Nagaland—vital for the seven primate species residing in the region. The sanctuary is already under strain from human activities, and a proposal to electrify a railway line passing through the sanctuary was recently recommended by the Standing Committee.

Modi govt’s aversion to data: A decade of missing numbers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BuhnZp7Dnc
The News Minute Data is essential for effective governance—it informs decisions, tracks progress, and holds authorities accountable. But what happens when the government stops sharing data? From census delays since 2011 to missing statistics on crime, education, health, and more, an IndiaSpend’s investigation reveals that 16 critical datasets and 9 Union ministry annual reports are delayed, some for years.
Inside Modi Govt’s War Room to Whitewash Global Indices https://www.reporters-collective.in/trc/inside-modi-govts-war-room-to-whitewash-global-indices The Reporters’ Collective investigation has revealed that it is part of a “whole-of-government approach” devised by the Prime Minister’s Office to closely monitor 30 global indices and reach out to agencies that publish the indices to convince them to change their parameters – what they measure – if India is doing badly in their reports, which it often does. he ministry responsible for tracking the index began compiling all such arguments and then triggered the lobbying machinery. The government gets in touch with the publishing agency to force them to “course correct”. For that it could use Indian missions abroad to talk to the publishers. Documents show the missions talked to publishers of Global Gender Gap Index, Democracy Index and Global Competitiveness Index.
