Ep. 2 of BBC Modi Documentary Holds up a Mirror to Indian People; Govt Should Let it be Seen: N. Ram https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2OhFUYrJ8s In an interview done literally hours after links to episode 2 of the BBC’s two-part documentary series called ‘India: The Modi Question’ became available to people in India, one of the country’s most highly regarded journalists and a former Editor-in-Chief and publisher of The Hindu says episode 2 is “an excellently conceived, excellently produced episode. It’s got a mix of people arguing both sides … there is nothing exaggerated here … nothing is overstated”. N. Ram believes that this episode holds up a mirror to the Indian people, reflecting the sort of country India is becoming and this is something that the Indian media and, perhaps, Indian news television channels in particular have signally failed to do. Mr. Ram says that unlike the government’s response to episode 1, which they tried to block on YouTube and Twitter, the government should allow episode 2 to be seen freely and widely.

BBC’s hitjob on Narendra Modi not a one-off incident, shows growing British distrust for rising India https://www.firstpost.com/opinion/bbcs-hit-job-on-narendra-modi-not-a-one-off-incident-shows-growing-british-distrust-for-rising-india-12034132.html
Conclusion Maybe the BBC’s hostility is a by-product of innate British distrust for India since the days of the Raj...The British misgiving for a strong, nationalist government led by Narendra Modi is even greater. In that way, the BBC’s hit-job on Modi shows growing British distrust for rising India. How could India escape the Churchillian doomsday scenario to not just do well in the new global order, but also push the UK behind and take its exalted position as an economic power?..Maybe there’s a racial angle, too: The BBC hit-job is also the British establishment’s assault against an Indian-origin prime minister at 10 Downing Street. It has come at a time when Rishi Sunak has put his force behind FTA with India. If India retracts, it will be a big personal setback for Sunak.

The strange case of Modi resurrecting Bose https://www.deccanherald.com/opinion/the-strange-case-of-modi-resurrecting-bose-1144095.html Bose himself was a secular-socialist leader, but as he became 'a forgotten hero' outside Bengal, some brains associated with the BJP-RSS decided to establish him, following Ambedkar's line, as one of the two principal architects (Gandhi being the other) of India's freedom. Now, some years later, Narendra Modi has put Bose back at the centre stage. Next, the government may put him in the history textbooks in a proper perspective if only to demolish the monopoly of the Congress in the narration of our freedom struggle. After all, a relevant question always haunts the inquisitive: When the Quit India movement died down in 1942 itself, why did the British leave India in 1947?
Harvard historian and Bose’s biographer Sugata Bose has unequivocally stated that “the differences between Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose are highly exaggerated. The parting that took place in 1939 was a temporary one and if we study the relationship between Gandhi and Netaji, we will find that it was one that was marked by deep mutual love, affection and respect.” .. Even while resigning as Congress president, Bose opposed the right-wing supporters of Gandhi in the Congress hierarchy but never indulged in any personal criticism of Gandhi.

Quarterly organic products shipments down 39%, number of certification companies dip 63%
BY SUBRAMANI RA MANCOMBU India’s export of organic products has dropped by 39% on a quarterly basis and the number of certified companies authorising such shipments has dipped by 63% since July 2022. The decline follows its decision to end a 15-year-old agreement with India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) to provide accreditation to agencies exporting organic products to the US. The USDA said its Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) ended the arrangement in January 2021 since audits by the US National Organic Program (NOP) consistently found India’s organic control system “to be insufficient to protect the integrity of the USDA organic seal”.
The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has followed up on its recommendation to the chief secretaries of all states and union territories to conduct a detailed inquiry of all recognised madrasas admitting non-Muslim children. In a notice issued to the UP Minority Affairs and Waqf Department, NCPCR said that giving Islamic education to non-Muslim students was a violation of Article 28(3) and sought a reply within three days.
The Commission’s latest directive came on January 20, two days after UP Madrassa Education Board (UPMEB) chairman Iftikhar Ahmed Javed rejected its recommendation. Javed said that apart from religious educations, madrasas were also imparting “modern education to children under NCERT syllabus”. Javed, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party member, had evoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” while expressing his angst at the manner in which divisiveness was being spread in educational institutions through such orders.
