March 2, 2023 India’s economy slowed further in the December quarter, figures released this week showed, as postpandemic pent up demand ebbed and the country’s manufacturing sector continued to weaken. Asia’s third largest economy recorded year-over-year growth of 4.4% last quarter, down from 6.3% in the September quarter.

The International Monetary Fund still projects India will be the fastest-growing major economy in 2023—largely on the back of resilient domestic demand. This may turn out to be optimistic if private consumption doesn’t pick up the pace again soon.

Nomura economists Sonal Varma and Aurodeep Nandi think markets are still significantly underappreciating the risks to India’s growth. They say the country’s growth cycle has peaked, and a combination of weaker global growth and tight domestic and global financial conditions could spell further trouble for exports, investment and discretionary consumption. The Shree Nagar police in Thane on March 28 registered an FIR against the developer, Squarefeet Real Estate, under IPC Section 430 (mischief by injury to works of irrigation or by wrongfully diverting water), after receiving a complaint from a local activist.)

Thanks to an RTI,.. response documents show that on November 8, 2022, while digging a bore well at plot No C-30 on Road No. 16 in Wagle Industrial Estate, the workers punctured the water tunnel. The tunnel carries water from Balkum to the Bhandup purification centre. A civic team visited the site the same day and confirmed the damage; however, the officials neither filed a police complaint nor took action against the developer, the activist said.

Several birds including Herons call Railadevi Lake their hang-out spot for food and leisure. The lake is surrounded by thick vegetation including many trees planted by NGOs and citizens.

This vibrant ecosystem of the Lake is now being brazenly destroyed by Thane Municipal Corporation and MMRDA.... The " beautification" of Railadevi lake. The project entails developing recreational spots at the periphery of the lake including Amphitheatre, walking tracks etc.

Trees to be cut & transplanted: Next, MMRDA along with TMC will undertake the cutting of 5 and transplantation of 112 trees from the area immediately surrounding the lake

Beautification of a thriving lake without any expertise: There has been no limnologist, hydrologist, ecologist or any other expert appointed

No permission from the Forest Department despite there being a presence of protected species such as Soft-shell turtles.
