The role played by women has been crucial to the BJP’s performances in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014 and 2019. The Women’s Reservation Bill can significantly add to that momentum.

States like Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Goa, were among 12 states, accounting for 200 Lok Sabha seats, where women registered higher voter turnout than men. In all these states, barring Tamil Nadu (39) and Kerala (20), the BJP secured emphatic wins in the 2019 general elections that saw the party bag 303 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats.
Much of this emphatic victory was attributed to the crucial role played by women voters in the elections. As per CSDS data, the BJP polled 37 per cent of the total votes in 2019, with women accounting for over 36 per cent of those votes.

The Opposition parties – Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – have named this disaster as “man-made disaster” for deliberately opening 23 gates out of 30 of Sardar Sarovar dam causing a difficult time for Gujarat. So far, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued 37 people trapped in the floodwaters of Dhami river in Aravalli district’s Demai village and almost 10,000 people have been shifted to safer areas.
Pal Ambaliya, chairman of the Gujarat Kisan Congress, the farmers’ wing of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) said, “In doing that, vested interests have certainly been protected but scores of people had to suffer large-scale damage. For example, farmers of Saurashtra, Kutch and north Gujarat regions had been longing for water for the past one month. But they were not given water because they (the government) were waiting for September 17.”

Women's Reservation Bill: Yet Another Smoke and Mirrors Trick with Godi Media in tow Courtesay S Sen in Whats app
I. The devil is in the details: "(T)he proposed reservation could come into force by 2029 after the constituencies are redrawn as part of the delimitation exercise based on the decennial census expected to get under way in 2026."
Hence, as per the "leak", there'd be no move towards immediate implementation.
Not only that, the implementation would be contingent upon taking up and completion of the next decennial census -- now inexplicably held up by the regime -- to be followed up by delimitation of constituencies.
Two big, completely unnecessary, "Ifs"!
II. A bill once introduced in the Rajya Sabha never dies -- because the upper house never dies -- unless superseded or rejected by the lower house.
Hence, the bill introduced by the UPA Government in the Rajya Sabha and approved by it in March 2010 is still very much alive.
The narrative of "lapse" presented below is plain false.
III. The Congress in its just concluded CWC meet -- Sept. 16-17 in Hyderabad -- has categorically demanded the passing of the pending bill in the Lok Sabha during this "Special Session". (Ref.: <https://twitter.com/Jairam_Ramesh/status/1703279060435263616> and also <https://twitter.com/Jairam_Ramesh/status/1703808646558421128>.)
In the report below, this has been completely suppressed and, in fact, implicitly denied.
IV. The real purpose, as it appears, is not to implement women's quota in state and central legislatures -- as has already been done in case of urban and rural local elected bodies -- but to try to disrupt the Opposition INDIA alliance, given the known differences. Hence, no attempt at arriving at a consensus via prior consultations.
It's now for the (other) INDIA alliance partners to respond with due sagacity.
<<The government refused to confirm the decision, but sources said that the proposed reservation could come into force by 2029 after the constituencies are redrawn as part of the delimitation exercise based on the decennial census expected to get under way in 2026.
The bill was first introduced in 1996, and even cleared by the Rajya Sabha in March 2010, but lapsed after the Lok Sabha failed to pass it.
Sources in the government were confident of the prospects of the bill in Parliament this time as well as of enlisting the necessary support from states. They said Congress would have to come along and pointed to states which are with BJP, its allies as well as parties which though not part of the NDA have been in support of the measure.>>

Arundhati Roy: The dismantling of democracy in India will affect the whole world https://scroll.in/article/1055943/arundhati-roy-the-dismantling-of-democracy-in-india-will-affect-the-whole-world
It is no longer just our leaders we must fear, but a whole section of the population. The banality of evil, the normalisation of evil is now manifest in our streets, in our classrooms, in very many public spaces. The mainstream press, the hundreds of 24-hour news channels have been harnessed to the cause of fascist majoritarianism. India’s Constitution has been effectively set aside. The Indian Penal Code is being rewritten. If the current regime wins a majority in 2024, it is very likely that we will see a new Constitution.
Still, the world’s powers choose to give Modi all the oxygen he needs to destroy the social fabric and burn India down. To me, this is a form of racism. They claim to be democrats, but they are racists. They don’t believe their professed “values” should apply to non-white countries. It’s an old story of course.
What’s happening in India is not that loose variety of internet fascism. It’s the real thing. Extract Courtsey Leo S - whatsapp
