Declaration on Youth Rights and Duties Campaign
<https://commutiny.in/vartaleap-coalition/youth-rights-duties>
Taking the discourse of 'Every Youth a Jagrik' forward at scoul (scale with soul). We aspire to move youth-centric development from the margins and make it a new norm in every space that young people occupy or that impacts young people.
Ashish K: 13th Aug: I notice for instance that there is no duty for protecting the environment, or treating the rest of nature (including species) with respect. You do have "offering personal talents and skills and creating well-being for
fellow humans and the planet"(and a right to "alternate forms of dignified livelihoods that support and regenerate the biodiversity and environment"), but this is partial.
I would also be skeptical of the assertion that "almost every positive change around the world and in India is led by the young" ... this could be (should be) an aspirational statement, but whether it is fact is
disputable. But that's in the preamble, so let it be.
Ashraf P: 13th Aug: About the specific clause - there was a process of engagement across different groups and there was a whole list of rights and duties that were drawn up - it was decided that we create some consensus and vote for top 3 corresponding rights and duties ‘for now ‘ to take out and invite everyone to commit actions on it - as a means of opening conversation and seeking actual commitments and get people to start inputting adding whatever they wished to see and ' earthy actions that we can do in day to day and long term roles .. from all sectors and individuals can take in different spaces- So yes pls ashish can you please input to this in the link .. that is the very idea to bring inputs.. about why the protecting the environment as a duty may not have been picked up in the top three for now - is probably to pick up the those that are not reflected in the constitution rights and duties that much and foreground that first..finally we are expecting a long more comprehensive list or rights and duties and actions ..
3. About your feedback on the the preamble i tend to agree we need to tone down and will take it back to group - what we are going to do is take one level of inputs till 15th aug ( hoping for more many more feedback from Vikalp Sagnam - and then modify it online and then roll it out for more and reach 10000 people till Oct 2nd nd then create the next version on 26th nov in a larger consultation .
Joy KJ: 13th Aug:
i was wondering whether you want to bring in the idea of intersectionality as we generally talk in the context of gender and patriarchy. .yes there is a mention of class, caste, gender, etc., etc.youth is not an abstract category and they belong to certain classes,castes, etc., etc and the issues could be different. in the case of youth they may carry multiple identities (class, caste, gender, minorities,ethnicity, rural-urban divides, etc. that's why i am suggesting to bring in the idea of intersectionality.

In which case even the issue of increased access to knowledge and information is a tricky one.. how do we bring parity between the poorest and marginalised youth, especially from a gender ,ability, sexual identity,caste and class perspective? the multiple vulnerabilities on the one hand, and on the other, multiple privilege ?
I have a visually challenged friend ..she comes from a privileged class and has amazing gadgets . . i get a response within minutes to my emails..how do you think a very poor girl/boy compares with her..
ashraf it's a very well written draft . .just adding my concerns..
