A research organization called Land-conflicts watch collects information on land-related agitations/conflicts/court disputes in India; Recently one of their reports has been released.
According to that report, there are about 600 land disputes in the country; Many of these disputes have been going on for many years; Protests have taken place and are taking place in many of these places
15 lakh hectares of land in nearly 750 districts are involved in these 600 networks;
42% of it is agricultural land while 37% is residential and 6.4 lakh citizens are affected.
This is taking place for 1.5 lakh hectares of water / forest / land acquisition for infrastructure / power generation / mineral wealth / forest wealth / and new industries.
