Breakdown of numbers show 52% are sub-inspector, 25% ASIs & 13% constables. Similiar scenario in judiciary as 38% of judges in the lower judiciary are women, 14% at HCs.
Although more women have joined the judiciary and the police over the years, they continue to remain concentrated at the lower echelons of the institutions, according to the India Justice Report 2025.
Released Tuesday, the report notes that women’s representation is even lower at the officer-level ranks in the police. Nationally, there are just 25,282, or eight percent, women officers.
