Manisha is traveling for elections, so we’re back with another gem of an episode from the past! In this special episode of TV Newsance, we take a deep dive into the evolution of Indian primetime news – from the tightly controlled, monotonous days of Doordarshan (DD) to today’s chaotic shouting matches.
We explore key milestones in this journey, starting with the birth of DD News in 1959, the disruption caused by Newstrack in 1989, and the explosion of private channels after the 1992 cable TV boom. With figures like Arnab Goswami leading the charge, primetime news has transformed into a battleground of shouting matches – but at what cost?

“The HC had clarified that 'prohibited place' as defined in section 2(8) of the official secrets act, does not cover police station and hence no case can be registered against a citizen for recording inside the police station,” Dr Patil stated.
