We remember Rohith Vemula on his martyrdom day!!
COLLECTIVE Mumbai put up an art exhibition at Mumbai University, Kalina Campus gate to commemorate Shahadati of Rohith Vemula. As Rohith imagined a world where one individual is not reduced in its immediate identity, as a number, we showed a history of that same imagination which braved severe repression of oppressive forces but dared to imagine a caste free world. The art exhibition put up at a bus stand showed the heroic anti-caste struggle from Savitribai to Mahad Satyagraha to Bhagat Singh to Namantar Movement to Dalit Panthers and the struggle of inspiring characters like Rohith in educational campuses against persistent manuvadi attacks by current dispensation. Both Public at Bus Stand and Students from the campus, following a parcha campaign, engaged in the assertive history of people to battle brahmanism and task in front of us to democratise campuses and imagine a free education in a free society.
At a time when policies like nep2020 are being pushed for a neoliberal commodified education model at a rapid pace, ignoring that SC/ST, OBC and minority students are already heavily underrepresented in higher education institutions. We reject such policies.
And we demand:
Enact Rohith Act
Reinstate Pre Matric scholarship for SC/ST and girl students
Bring back MANF, release NFSC, NFOBC scholarship lists immediately
Repeal NEP 2020

The current ceasefire could have been agreed upon in May 2024 itself, as the terms are similar. Netanyahu failed to reach his war aims, despite being provided by the Biden/Harris/Blinken regime with "the tools to get the job done...."
Today, Israel stands far more reviled & delegitimsed in the eyes of the world, a pariah state, with its top political & military leaders being tried for war crimes."
Gaza ceasefire reveals Israel’s fragility, and the transformative power of resistance https://mondoweiss.net/2025/01/gaza-ceasefire-reveals-israels-fragility-and-the-transformative-power-of-resistance/ By Abdaljawad Omar January 17, 2025 In the wake of a ceasefire, many will try to force the discourse into a binary of victory and defeat. But as the dust settles, a true picture emerges: one of the fragility of the Israeli colony, and the transformative power of resistance.
Delays in finalizing a ceasefire, prioritization of settlement expansion over recovering prisoners for many rightwing forces, and the Haredim’s refusal to enlist have deepened internal fractures )In Israel) .. For a state that ties its survival to military dominance, these cracks reveal the limits of unity after the war. As Israeli society will now have to reckon both with its crimes, its successes, and its new image in the world.
the very fact that a ceasefire agreement was reached—a ceasefire that mitigates some of the worst anxieties among Palestinians—disrupts the logic of those who argue for the futility of resistance, though not entirely. It reveals that Israel, despite its plans for ethnic cleansing in Gaza, was compelled to concede. ..
At its core, resistance cannot be reduced to its tactical or strategic dimensions. It is not merely a confrontation on the battlefield but a disruption of the ontological certainties of the colonizer. Its essence lies in forcing the colonizer to confront questions they have sought to evade: Can their power truly secure resolution? Do massacres deliver finality, or do they deepen the abyss?
Resistance forces the colonizer to encounter their own contingency, to recognize the fragility of the structures they believed unassailable. In this sense, the battlefield is not just a space of violence but a space of interrogation—a site where the colonizer’s sovereignty is subjected to doubt. In other words the goal of resistance is to force the enemy to question itself.
Mahayuti’s vote-winning cash scheme for poor women shrinks under financial strain https://frontline.thehindu.com/news/mahayuti-maharashtra-election-ajit-pawar-devendra-fadnavis-ladki-bahin-beneficiaries/article69104501.ece Jan 16, 2025 the government has taken a route that was anticipated before election: it has decided to cut down the list of the beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme, a direct beneficiary transfer (DBT) scheme that brought Mahayuti back to power from the debacle of Lok Sabha. Out of 2.5 crore beneficiaries, the list could be pruned by up to 15 per cent, according to informed sources. Almost 30 to 35 lakh women would be deleted from the scheme.
How cash transfers and communal politics propelled Mahayuti’s landslide win in Maharashtra https://frontline.thehindu.com/politics/maharashtra-assembly-elections-2024-mahayuti-alliance-historic-victory-bjp-shinde/article68901722.ece Ladki Bahin scheme’s reach to 2.3 crore women, combined with an aggressive “Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai” campaign, helped the NDA win over 200 seats.
How BJP became the dominant political force in Maharashtra, replacing Congress https://frontline.thehindu.com/politics/maharashtra-assembly-election-bjp-mahayuti-victory-congress-hindutva-maratha-reservation-bahujan-samaj-ma-dha-va/article68963808.ece
This dominance comes through a combination of Hindutva ideology, welfare schemes, and strategic alliance-building with regional leaders.
