Freedom to send to jail? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K02urjYvwlU Ravish Kumar Official Dec 23, 2023
Who will decide what is criticism of the government and what is criticism of the country? The Home Minister has said that you can criticize the government, but not the country. In the new criminal law, treason has been replaced with treason. Obviously, only the government will decide, its police will decide whether what you have written or said in criticism of the government is a criticism of the country. The concerns that people have regarding the Indian Justice Code, the Indian Civil Defense Code, the Indian Evidence Code, should not reach the people. Are not reaching. The speeches being given regarding this are being delivered and there is more emphasis on applause in the speeches. What is there in this law? What kind of concerns are being raised regarding this, the public does not yet know and will not.
Indian priest jailed under ‘anti-conversion’ laws is released https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/256359/indian-priest-jailed-under-anti-conversion-laws-is-released, Anto Akkara, Dec 22, 2023 A Catholic priest who was arrested by Indian authorities for violating “anti-conversion” laws, was released from jail on Dec. 11 after being detained for nearly three months amid increasing persecution of Christians in the majority-Hindu state of Uttar Pradesh.
The Diocese of Allahabad, in a statement, detailed the sequence of events that led to the priest's arrest. According to the diocese, the police were trying to locate a Christian pastor named Susai Raj, who allegedly violated “conversion laws” by conducting prayers inside a house. Raj is the brother of an employee of Father Francis. When the police could not find Raj, they arrested two of his brothers, his son-in-law, along with the Catholic priest, and brought them to the police station. All of them were charged with conversion and “attempt to murder.”’
A C Michael, coordinator of the United Christian Forum (UCF) said While only 147 incidents of violence against Christians were reported in 2014 (when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took office), Michael pointed out that “incidents have steadily spiraled since then” with 177 in 2015, 208 in 2016, 240 in 2017, 292 in 2018, 328 in 2019, 279 in 2020, 505 in 2021, 599 in 2022 and 687 until Nov. 2023.
Revoke suspension of 146 Members of Parliament! https://pucl.org/manage-press-stateme/revoke-suspension-of-146-members-of-parliament/ Dec 23, 2023
Immediately upload in Parliament’s website answers to all 290 Questions raised by MPs! Don’t reduce India’s Parliament to an appendage of the executive!
By suspending 146 MPs, the ruling BJP government has clearly indicated that its actions in earlier sessions of passing laws without any meaningful parliamentary discussion and bypassing parliament by passing Money Bills, were not accidental but intended to devalue the parliamentary process. By these repeated acts of contempt for constitutional conventions, this government has rendered India’s parliament as just an appendage to the executive, like in any autocracy.
Paying no heed to the void created by the suspension of almost the entire opposition in Parliament, the ruling government passed three crucial laws seeking to change the character of criminal justice system in India. The Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023, The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023 and The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023 were passed by both houses of Parliament with only a voice vote of the ruling party members. The three criminal law bills have far reaching consequences for the entire people of this country seriously jeopardising decades of jurisprudence of criminal justice which had evolved many checks and balances to make the police and state accountable for violation of law.
Similarly, the controversial Telecommunications Bill, 2023 was passed by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which has serious privacy concerns since it allows for the interception of private messages as well. Both bills were passed with parliament being reduced to nothing more than a reflection of the voice of the executive.
An alarming total of 14 Bills have been passed in this session after the suspensions of MPs began.
