The home minister made many misleading statements. He claimed that the Kuki infiltrators entered Manipur because of the violence in Myanmar and it led to anxiety among the Meitei people, which then led to violence in the state. https://thewire.in/government/no-trace-of-sympathy-modi-shahs-reply-to-the-opposition-in-parliament-was-an-insult-to-manipur
The media did not question his claim but the Kuki community has strongly objected to the home minister’s statement. The Kuki MLAs, including those of the BJP, have asked him to prove his claim. But the media did not consider it necessary to question the home minister on providing an explanation on the claim.
Apart from this, the home minister claimed that an organisation named Kuki Democratic Front is fighting in Myanmar, and the conflict in Myanmar led to many Kukis crossing over from Myanmar into Manipur for their safety.
According to news reports, the Kuki groups in Myanmar have refuted Shah’s allegation on its presence in Manipur.
Why was this misrepresentation not questioned? Apart from the misrepresentation, the statement also revealed that the Union government largely agrees with the description of the Manipur crisis as given by the Meitei majoritarian Manipur government. Then how can it be expected to establish peace in Manipur if it is so openly partisan towards the majority?

August 11 marks 100 days since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur – and 100 days since the state government first shut down the internet. The high court has ordered a “partial restoration” of internet services – but, as experts have pointed out, that partial restoration meets the needs only of a very small proportion of the state’s population.

Internet shutdown, saying that “the citizens of Manipur are being deprived of their basic human rights”. The research and advocacy organisation has also argued that the shutdown is in fact breeding misinformation, and people are being unable to independently verify what they hear.

मणिपुर पर राहुल-स्मृति आमने सामने | Rahul vs Smriti on Manipur Ravish Kumar Official Aug 9, 2023
In the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi told those who raised Bharat Mata slogans what has happened to the women in Manipur. Rahul Gandhi said that the Prime Minister listens to the voices of two people. How Rahul's speech was, it can also be known from the reactions of BJP leaders, Manipur was less visible in their answers, Rahul was more visible. In Rahul's speech, Manipur, the Prime Minister and the two people he keeps talking about. Today it seemed that Women's Development Minister Smriti Irani would answer on Manipur and destroy the opposition, but she went straight to Kashmir. And from there reached Amethi via Bengal and Rajasthan. Rather, Smriti Irani has left a lot of blank space for Manipur in the Prime Minister's speech by enumerating many schemes. Now if he wants, he can give full speech on Manipur.

The Most Damaging Charge Against CM Biren Singh: Protecting Drug Lords Connected To BJP & His Wife https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0rZN3dQ51w The Wire Aug 7, 2023
A former Additional Superintendent of Police in the Manipur police department has levelled the most damaging charge against Chief Minister Biren Singh – that he is not fighting the illegal drug trade and illegal poppy cultivation but “He is part of it. He is part of the drug cartel. He is protecting them. He is their patron.” Thounaojam Brinda has recounted in detail a story she had earlier told to Tamal Saha of News The Truth about how in June 2018 the Chief Minister made repeated attempts, including “illegal” ones, to get her to release a drug lord she had caught in possession of lakhs worth of drugs.

Exerpts from Lette from Association of Meiteis in the Americasto Ajay Bangs, President The World Bank,

violence in Manipur has set the economy back by decades...
Manipur has not only survived but also emerged stronger after numerous internecine clashes. The common factor in most of these clashes seems to be the aggression of the Kukis. Mention may be made here of the Kuki and Naga clash in the 90s. Kuki and Paite clash in 1997. Kuki and Karbi clash in 2009. Kuki and Dimasa clash in 2011, and the ongoing Kuki and Meitei clash of 2023. In the context of Manipur, we see a repetition of history - the aggression of the Kukis in the 1990s and 2023 is directly linked to the military coup in Myanmar in 1988 and the military coup of February 2021. The junta's brutal suppression of resistance displaced mom than a million Myanmar people, and there has been a massive influx of asylum seekers to India. Consequently, them has been a documented exponential growth of Kuki-Chins people from Myanmar. The economic, land, and political pressures leave poor migrants with minimal choices for employment. India's restrictive migration regime provides no protection for refugees and displaced people, leading to poppy cultivation in over 15000 acres of protected fore. in Manipur.
The World Bank projects like the P176733 will help uplift socio-economic conditions through economic impact initiatives, bringing Manipur digitally closer to the rest of the world. The social risk and impact am enormously positive for the World Bank to invest in these regions. The project is highly inclusive, with special attention to women and over 35 diverse tribal groups.
Comment by BD : Othering the Kukis and labelling them as aggressors against other tribals groups like Nagas and Paites and other ethnic groups

A World Bank-supported project to promote digital skills and entrepreneurship and secure the foundation of digital governance in Manipur, and approved by the World Bank three weeks ago, has now become the bone of contention between Manipuri tribal and non-tribal diaspora groups.
Project , or the Manipur Infotech eNabled Development Project, which was conceptualised in 2022 at a cost of $57.5 million ($46 million to come from the World Bank and rest to be borne by the local government), is to be implemented by Cyber Corporation of Manipur Ltd.
Scheduled to start in the current financial year, when the state is engulfed by violence for nearly three months now, the project has sparked off a row between the Canada-based North American Tribal Association (NAMTA) and the Houston-based Association of Meiteis in the Americas (AMA).

Surveys by GSI (Geological Survey of India) in #Manipur has reported finding of Nickel, copper and Platinum Group Elements ( PGE )/Platinum Group Metals aptyt from Malachite, Azurite and Magnetite.
This lies under the earth strata of the hills which is the home to tribals for 1000s of years.
89% of the land in #Manipur are hills. The precious minerals are in that territory. This is the home of the tribals.
Well known private companies with close links to the ruling party are interested in getting mining rights. The hill inhabitants would have to helplessly watch the hill and mountain tops being sliced off and monstrous mining equipments tear into it's belly and pull out their booty... ..Somewhere deep beneath the ethnic violence that we see, is yet another untold story of precious metals, minerals, Mining lobby, political benefits.
