Gujarat institution founded by Gandhi invites governor to be chancellor, crystallising a pattern

the Gujarat Vidyapith  council in a 13-9 vote decided to invite Gujarat governor Acharya Devvrat to take over as chancellor of the Vidyapith. 

In October 1920, Mahatma Gandhi had written a two-line letter to Vidyagauri Nilkanth, one of the first women graduates from Gujarat: “I have always wanted Gujarat Vidyapith to be established. It goes without saying that the government will have no say in its affairs.”

So it is necessary to challenge the powers that be while speaking in the name of Dakshin (south) so that the country’s federal structure is protected,” Devy said.

The weighed down ecosystem, says Devy, has also sparked new literary trends in the country, especially among already marginalised groups.
“…after 2014, these Dalit writers were not just writing about resistance to caste discrimination but to fascism. Similarly, feminist writers have turned their attention to the question of a totalitarian state not just patriarchal society,” Devy said.
